Red fence paint is a bold call, and when it works, it really works. At TA Industrial Paints, we manufacture our red fence paints directly from our Wolverhampton site, keeping quality firmly in our own hands.

Red has long been a staple on agricultural buildings and traditional timber fencing across the British countryside. Today, it's found a new audience in contemporary garden design. Available in gloss and enamel finishes, in 3 colour variants across 1L, 2.5L and 5L sizes. Take advantage of our multi-buy discounts and free delivery on qualifying orders.

Red Garden Fence Paint

Red garden fence paint isn't for the faint-hearted. That's rather the point. It brings warmth and character to an outdoor space in a way that neutral tones simply can't. A deep barn red behind prairie-style planting looks genuinely striking. A brighter red on a gate or garden structure adds a focal point that earns its keep all year round.

Here's what's available in our red range:

  • Red Wood Paint: available in 3 colour variants for timber fences, gates, and garden structures, in a gloss finish

  • Red Enamel Paint: a tough, hardwearing formula in 2 colour variants, suitable across multiple surfaces

  • Exterior Fence & Shed Paint: a multi-purpose garden paint with red options within its 32-colour range

  • Custom Fence & Shed Paint: a 3-in-1, oil-based PU enamel that primes and protects in a single coat

All products dry touch dry in as little as 2-4 hours and can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Wondering which shade of red suits your fence or outbuilding? Drop the team a message. We're happy to help you narrow it down.

FAQs

What's the difference between barn red and a brighter signal red for a garden fence?

Barn red is a deeper, more muted tone, earthy and warm. Traditionally associated with agricultural buildings and rural settings across the UK. Signal or pillar box reds are far more vivid and make a much stronger statement.

For most garden fences, a deeper barn red tends to age better and sit more comfortably against planting. Brighter reds work well as accents; on gates or smaller structures rather than a full boundary fence.

Does red fence paint fade more than other colours?

Red pigments can be prone to fading under prolonged UV exposure, particularly brighter shades. Cheaper paints often use pigments that break down quickly in direct sunlight, shifting towards a washed-out pink or orange over time.

Our red fence paints are UV-resistant, which significantly slows this process. South-facing fences in full sun will always face more wear, so keeping a small amount of leftover paint for touch-ups is sensible.

Is red fence paint a traditional choice or more of a contemporary trend?

Red fence paint is both a traditional and contemporary choice for your garden. Deep red has been used on barns and timber sheds across Britain and Scandinavia for centuries. It's a genuinely historic choice.

The Scandinavian influence in particular has made it popular in garden design again in recent years. Whether you're painting a rural outbuilding or a modern garden gate, there's a version of red that fits the brief.

Can red fence paint be used on concrete or brick as well as timber?

Yes, our Exterior Fence & Shed Paint and Custom Fence & Shed Paint are multi-surface formulas. They work on concrete, brick, stone, metal and wood.

This is useful if your fence combines timber panels with concrete posts. You can keep a consistent finish across the whole boundary without switching products. For particularly porous surfaces, a primer coat first will give better coverage.

How do I stop red fence paint from looking patchy on rough or weathered timber?

Patchy paint coverage on rough timber usually comes down to two things: surface prep and coat thickness.

Weathered timber absorbs paint unevenly, so a thorough clean and a light sand before you start will help. Work the first coat well into the grain rather than brushing quickly across the surface. The second coat is where you'll get even, consistent coverage. Don't rush it. Red is a strong colour and uneven finish shows more than it would on a mid-tone.
